Franz Jedlicka

Franz Jedlicka, born in Vienna as Peter Franz Jedlicka, is an Austrian sociologist and peace researcher. He is focusing on the psycho-social root causes of wars and the emergence of peaceful societies. His first focus was the negative impact of a widespread violence against children on the peacefulness of nations. Later he developed the "Culture of Violence Scale" to estimate the acceptance of violence within countries, which led to the "Legislation-Peace Nexus" approach, that he considers also important for development policy (Triple Nexus / HDP Nexus). To foster the peacefulness - also in countries who are relatively peaceful right now - he recommends several strategies in his "Peace Mainstreaming" concept. He is also the founder of the "White Hand Kampagne", a campaign which makes information about child corporal punishment better known in the German speaking countries.
